Don't Let Spider Veins Spoil Your Costume This Year

Halloween is the time to dress up as someone or something completely different. From goblins and ghouls to princesses and pirates, it can be fun to don a whole new look for a night. But your Halloween festivities can turn into a real-life horror movie when you’re still covered in spider veins long after the candy is gone.

At Results Medical Aesthetics & Wellness, Dr. Laura Bilbruck and her team specialize in getting rid of your spider veins so you can make sure Halloween only lasts one night every year.

What are spider veins?

No matter how you feel about spiders, their webs can be beautiful, intricate works of art. The same isn’t true for the vein condition named after them.

Spider veins are small red, purple, or blue veins that twist and turn across your legs and face. Your veins have special valves that help them control blood flow. When those valves are weakened or damaged, your blood pools and your veins become visible.

This condition can affect anyone, but there are a few risk factors that increase your chances of developing spider veins, including:

Working jobs that require you to sit or stand for long periods of time can also put stress on your veins and damage them. Wherever your spider veins come from, we can help you get rid of them.

How do you treat spider veins?

While they rarely cause any pain or pose a threat to your health, spider veins are a serious cosmetic concern. We offer Asclera® sclerotherapy, the best vein removal treatment, to make them disappear once and for all.

Sclerotherapy is a process in which Dr. Bilbruck injects a special solution directly into your veins. The treated veins close off and eventually fade from view as your body processes and removes them.

Because this treatment is minimally invasive and virtually painless, recovery is a breeze. You’ll wear compression stockings continuously for the first 2-3 days and then the following 2-3 weeks during the daytime.

It’s best to start walking immediately after your treatment and for the next few days as well. Do your best to avoid heavy exercise, sunbathing, long plane flights, and hot baths to get the best results.

How do you prevent spider veins?

When your spider veins are a thing of the past, you never want to see them return. Here’s how you can make sure they don’t.

Get regular exercise

Exercise prevents spider veins in two ways: strength and circulation. With stronger leg muscles and veins, the valves are much less likely to become damaged. Regular exercise also promotes circulation and helps your blood flow correctly.

Control your weight

If you’re overweight, you’re putting an inordinate amount of stress on your whole body, including your smallest blood vessels. Shedding a few extra pounds can benefit your overall health and lower the risk of damage to your veins.

Avoid crossing your legs

You might be most comfortable crossing your legs while you’re sitting, but your veins are suffering. Relieve the unnecessary stress on your veins by uncrossing your legs while seated, and try to elevate your legs when you’re resting.

Invest in compression stockings

These special stockings can give your veins the support they need to control blood flow by helping them push blood back to your heart. Ask Dr. Bilbruck about which brand she recommends.

Get off your feet

Your valves already work hard against the force of gravity to keep your blood flowing in the right direction. Take the pressure off your veins by getting off your feet, and avoid standing for long periods of time.

When you hang up your costume for the year, make sure your spider veins are put away for good as well.
