Resolve to Live Acne Free

Some people are fortunate enough to graduate from puberty acne free, but for the rest of us acne is a real problem. In fact, 50 million Americans from preteens to middle-aged adults struggle with acne every year.

While there are plenty of products and home remedies available, there’s no substitute for the expertise and care only an expert like Dr. Laura Bilbruck can provide.

At Results Medical Aesthetics & Wellness, we understand that acne is frustrating at any age. That’s why our team of aesthetic specialists makes acne treatments a focus of skin care

Here’s everything you need to know about acne and how we can help you live acne free this year.

A closer look at your skin

Except for your palms and the soles of your feet, your skin is covered in small openings called pores. You have two different kinds of pores: oil and sweat.

Hair follicles and sebaceous glands within your pores work together to secrete and distribute oil. This oil, also known as sebum, helps your skin stay moisturized and healthy.

An oil pore that’s working correctly does a good job of cleaning out excess oil, dead skin cells, and other irritants. Sometimes, your pores malfunction, which causes them to become clogged or secrete too much oil. This disruption is what triggers frustrating bumps and redness to pop up on your face, back, and chest.

Acne can happen to anyone, but there are a few risk factors that increase your chances of developing acne or making it worse. For example, hormonal changes, carb-heavy diets, certain medications, and stress all impact your skin and exacerbate your acne.

Types of acne

Common types of acne include:

You can have one type or a combination of acne, ranging from mild to severe. Acne typically affects pubescent teenagers, but it can continue into your 30s and 40s.

This skin condition doesn’t pose a threat to your health, but it can cause significant scarring, skin changes, and emotional distress if not treated properly.

Treating your acne

Chances are you’ve tried every acne treatment on the market — and chances are you haven’t gotten the results you were promised.

When you want to be sure that your acne will disappear for good, you need our lineup of skin care services and products.

We begin by conducting a thorough evaluation of your skin and discussing your goals with you. Here are some of our most popular acne treatments that we may recommend.

We offer a wide variety of chemical peels that address multiple skin conditions, including acne. Chemical peels involve applying a medical-grade chemical solution to your skin that makes the top layers blister and eventually peel off.

Our ZO® peels are especially effective in removing dead skin, cleaning out pores, and exfoliating, leaving you with brighter, clearer skin.

We also offer facials as a solution to your acne. Depending on your specific needs and goals, we recommend the facial that’s right for you. Our facials address your acne by cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating your skin.

Laser treatments

If necessary, we use the power of lasers to treat your acne. The Lumenis® Legend Pro™ system uses lasers to penetrate into the deepest layers of your skin and reduce the appearance of acne lesions, hyperpigmentation marks, and scarring.

Laser treatments can also be used to combat active acne flare-ups.

Acne-friendly products

Our in-office services can’t be beaten, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a way to treat your acne and avoid new breakouts at home. For at-home care, we offer Jane Iredale® natural makeup that won’t clog your pores and premium skin care products that help you manage breakouts.
