What to Do About Skin Tags

If you have a skin tag, you know how irritating it can be — and you’re not alone. Nearly half of adults have at least one skin tag somewhere on their body. Most people leave them untreated, but why would you when you can get flawless skin with the help of one of our expert medical professionals?

The team at Results Medical Aesthetics & Wellness, led by Dr. Laura Bilbruck, specializes in making you and your skin the healthiest and most beautiful it can be. That includes removing annoying skin tags

Skin tag basics

The first thing to know about skin tags is that they’re benign, which means they aren’t cancerous. Skin tags are small, usually skin-colored, growths on the skin. They’re typically suspended on a stalk and hang off the skin as tags do on clothes.

Although gender doesn’t play a role in how likely you are to develop skin tags, being obese and pregnant does increase your risk of developing them.

Skin tags typically develop in places where there’s constant friction. Common places for skin tags include the eyelids, neck, underarms, upper chest, and around the groin and buttock area.

Causes of skin tags are unclear, but it’s most likely due to clusters of collagen and blood vessels becoming trapped inside thicker pieces of your skin. They typically start small and flat, but can grow as big as 1 centimeter in diameter.

Getting rid of your skin tags

You might want your skin tag removed because it gets irritated easily or because it’s an eyesore. Whatever the reason, we’re here to help. Here are a few of the ways we can address your skin tag problem:

Cryotherapy is a method in which your skin tag is frozen with a concentrated dose of liquid nitrogen. Freezing the skin tag makes it impossible for it to survive, and it eventually falls off after about 10-14 days.

Electrosurgery uses an electrode that sends an electric current into your skin tag. This effectively dries it out and causes it to fall off, leaving you with flawless skin.

Another way to remove a skin tag is to simply snip it from the skin. A little local anesthesia is applied to your skin and the skin tag is removed, never to be seen again.

Depending on your specific needs and situations, we recommend the treatment plan that’s best for you.

Skin tags bother millions of people every day, but they don’t have to bother you anymore. With our gentle care and comforting support, we can remove your flaws and give you the tagless life you’ve wanted. Call our Tulsa, Oklahoma, office or schedule an appointment online for a consultation today.
